You Just Never Know...

We live in a small town in the heart of amish country. It's quiet and peaceful, and for the most part a wonderful place to raise a family.

But...

You just never know what you may have to deal with.

I was in a hurry this morning trying to get two S-L-O-W-L-Y moving children to eat breakfast, change clothes and brush teeth so we could run errands. It's amazing how much faster they get ready when you bribe tell them you will go to the McDonald's with a playplace for lunch. I'm sooo not above bribery. But I digress.

Finally, both children were outside while I gathered some last minute items. This is how the conversation went from there:

Drew: "Mooooommmmmyyyyy, come qwick! It's sooo gwoss!"

Me: "What are you talking about?"

Alex: "It's horse p--p on the sidewalk wight by the fwont door. Qwick mommy!"

Me: (thinking) yeah, right. It's just another stall tactic. It's probably from our resident toads or a dog or something.

Then...

Yes. It. Was. Horse p--p right in front of our front door.

Let me just let that sink in. RIGHT BY THE FRONT DOOR!!!!! EWWWWWWW.

We're not talking a small little pile. Oh Noooooo. It was umm..large to say the least.

Note to self: why am I blogging about this? I have probably lost the two readers I did have.

What in the world was going on at our house? That meant, that there had to be a horse, STANDING, by the front door long enough to do it's business.

So, like any other pioneer woman living in the country would do, I called my husband. Immediately. On my cell phone. Oh, yes I did.

After he finished laughing (laughing?) he told me when he woke up at 5:30 to get ready for work he heard lots of shouting and galloping out by the road. The neighbor's horses had gotten out of the neighboring pasture and they were trying to round them all up. They must have come in our yard and made themselves at home.

Ummm...hello...neighbors...I think you missed something.

Yes, I got a shovel and shoveled the whole disgusting mess far, far away from the door. No, I do not have pictures. It's bad enough I'm blogging about it!

I wonder if the horses figured out the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Especially if you're standing on the sidewalk. By the front door.

I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.
